Technical Information

Customer-specific gears and winches using our modular system
ZOLLERN gears and winches are comprised firstly by planetary gears such as slewing and rotary units, stationary gears and secondly by hoisting, towing, lifeboard and freefall winches, with integrated planetary gears. Each gear and every rope winch is designed to meet a specific application. A modular-type system, according to which the individual planetary stages and housing components are assembled, permits a wide combination variety. The same stages can be used both in rope winches, chassis, rotary and slewing units.

This involves adjusting the design, production, assembly and quality assurance stages to the product in question, as customer proximity means more to us than just providing customer-oriented services. We take customer proximity quite literally: Our engineers are competent advisors, no matter how complex the assignment. Because for our customers, the modular system means not having to dispense with flexibility.

Gears

Gears comprise planetary gear sets made up of between one and five stages, and can also feature a spur gear input stage. Compared to conventional spur-gear based drive systems, this design provides all the familiar benefits of planetary gears:

  • Simultaneous load distribution to three gear wheels
  • High degree of efficiency due to low rolling circle speeds
  • Compact dimensions and low weight

The ground tooth flanks on the sun and planetary wheels result in low noise emissions. The planetary gears are highly durable and demonstrate a high degree of efficiency, even under unfavourable conditions of -20°C to +70°C. Drive can take place optionally using fast or slow-running hydraulic motors or by means of combustion engine or electric motor: The drive side is equipped with a motor flange or free shaft end. Additional equipment includes slipping locks, hydraulically, electrically and manually actuated brakes and recirculating lubrication.

Rope winches

Seilwinden with internal planetary gears are amazingly compact, permitting a wide variety of different gears with parking brake and hydraulic motor to be partially integrated in the drum, provided it is sufficiently long. The individual winches come with a large number of different transmission ratios (from 13.1 to 625), with line pulls of 20 kN to 935 kN, for hoisting, towing or freefall winching operations. The gear is protected inside the drum. The minimal mounting space required for planetary gears permits the design of compact rope winches - particularly important where winches have to be integrated into a device or unit. They are supplied in the form of a ready-to-mount unit which provides an economical solution even where space is at a premium. A further development in this field is our compact electric winch, in which the gear as well as the electric motor are integrated in the drum.

Here, the scope of delivery is adjusted in line with customer requirements: The unit can either be supplied just with gear and parking brake, in which case the connection to the input drive is configured for hydraulic or electric motor, or with a series of accessories: For example with winch pedestal, pressure roller, hydraulic control blocks or a device for forced spooling.

Configuration of our gears

Our gears are configured as standard in accordance with F.E.M. (Fédération Européenne de la Manutention) section I 3rd edition and section IX as well as DIN 15020, based on an L2 load collective and operating class T5 in accordance with driving gear group M5.
The toothing is configured in line with DIN 3990 issue Dec. 1987.
In response to customer request, our gears can additionally be configured in accordance with AGMA, BS or other standards and regulations specified by certifying bodies.
Application temperatures lie between -20°C and +70°C. On request, the gears can also be designed for operation at different temperatures.
