At ZOLLERN, we manufacture steel profiles in close cooperation with customers from all types of industries, and develop special design and manufacturing solutions. Precisely pre-shaped profiles are perfect for complex components that need to withstand high strains.

The manufacturing processes ZOLLERN uses to produce profiles increase material strength with the right cold forming and heat treatment, and if required they also improve machining properties. Constantly further developed and improved manufacturing processes coupled with the very latest quality assurance systems make the name ZOLLERN synonymous with top standards in the industry.

Manufacturing with profiles above all saves money. Reducing machining to a minimum with the intelligent use of profiles in structural parts cuts machinery and tool costs as well as costs for personnel and materials.

Product range

  • Cross-sections
    We manufacture profile cross-sections of between 5 mm2 and 6000 mm2. The maximum width of our profiles is 160 mm.
  • Lengths
    ZOLLERN steel profiles can be supplied as bars in manufacturing and fixed lengths of up to approx. 12 m depending on their cross-section. The length tolerance here is ± 2 mm.
  • Measurement tolerances
    Depending on the nominal measurement range, we achieve basic tolerance degrees of up to IT 8 according to ISO 286.
  • Surface roughness
    ZOLLERN supplies drawn profiles to roughness category N8 according to DIN-ISO 1302. That corresponds with a medium roughness value of Ra ≤ 3,2 μm or a mean roughness depth of Rz ≤ 16 μm. The values we achieve for blasted surfaces or after inductive hardening are Ra ≤ 5.0 μm or Rz ≤ 25 μm.

 

 

Application areas of steel profiles

Steel profiles are used in almost all areas of industry and in a wide range of applications. Here are some to give you an idea of the scope of utilisation.

Linear guides

In general mechanical engineering, profiles are used above all as linear guides and prism rails, but other components in linear guide technology are also made from profiles. Included here are bogie trucks or components for ball bushings.

 

Automotive industry

Steel profiles are used in the automotive industry in various areas to meet all kinds of requirements. Included here are cross discs for the metering units of diesel injection pumps, gear components or components for electric drives, e.g. for seat adjustment or electric windows. The toothed wheel profile shown here is a key part of an electric window lifter. 

 

Medical technology

Profiles used in this field range from bone marrow nails to guides. As this photo of a machined guide rail shows, faultless surfaces are achieved here. For most medical applications, anti-allergic and of course non-corrosive materials must be used.

 

 

Wood processing machines

ZOLLERN profiles are used in wood processing machines as holders, plane blades made of high-speed steel, tensioning bars, thrust pieces, clamping bars or shavings devices for planning heads. Shavings devices used for complex contours must meet extremely high shape tolerances.

Textile machines  

In textile machine engineering, profiles are used as draw-off rollers, thread guides, needle rails or slide rails as well as axes. For functional or optical reasons, the demands on the surface quality are very high. 

 

Energy technology

There is a wide range of applications for steel profiles in energy technology. For instance, ZOLLERN steel profiles are used as switch components and switch axes, and partly also as turbine blades. The turbine blades shown here are made of high-temperature-resistant and very high-temperature-resistant steels. 

 

Hunting and sport firearms

Hunting and sport firearms parts require especially high surface quality, shape and measurement tolerances. The use of ZOLLERN steel profiles in breech blocks, triggers, hammers and barrels is proof of their high quality.

 

Toothed wheel profiles

Profiles can be used to manufacture toothed wheels with all conceivable tooth variations. They offer special advantages for components with teeth in asymmetric shapes, as shown here in the profile of a door closing device.

 

Printing machines

Tensioning and clamping bars made of steel profiles are used in printing machines. They achieve narrow radii and undercuttings together with narrow measuring tolerances.
